Robert Smasne of Smasne Cellars, the 2013 Washington Winery of the Year as chosen by Wine Press Northwest, crafts these wines with Kirkland vintner Bob Delf, and their collaboration on this white Rhone blend of Roussanne (55%) from Alder Ridge and Viognier off Upland Vineyard on Snipes Mountain produces an enjoyable harmony. There’s a theme of pear and apple butter, buttered toast, honey and banana cream pie. The flavors continue to sing with apple and pear notes as part of a rich mouth feel, finished by a hint of toast and cinnamon. This vintage sold out at the winery within four months of release, but the 2013 should be available this spring.
