Northwest Cellars 2010 Intrigue, Yakima Valley, $28

Puget Sound vintner Bob Delf produced a winning formula with his blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Syrah (34%), Petit Verdot (13%) and Malbec. The Syrah notes take over the nose in attractive fashion as blackberry jam leads allspice, tar and smoky toast. There’s a huge “Wow!” factor on the rich palate with blackberry, blueberry and cherry flavors wrapped up amid well-managed tannins and good acidity. Black pepper spice creates a long finish. While this wine no longer is available at the Kirkland headquarters, a few bottles can be had at the Nectar Tasting Room in downtown Spokane.
