Amazing. Sublime. Transcendent. Damn good! The third iteration of the Greenfresh Market Renton Red is one of those rare and wonderful discoveries that simply baffles explanation and recharges my excitement for finding great $10.00 wines.

I've tasted hundreds of wines under $10.00 and more than 100 wines priced between $30 and $100 per bottle. There really is a pretty major difference in quality. Not all expensive wines are excellent, but almost all excellent wines are over $30.00. Don't get me wrong, there are very good wines under $10.00 and that's what my blog is all about. But it is rare that I find a $10.00 wine that stands up to the best wines in the world.

Welcome the 2005 Greenfresh Market Renton Red. First a disclaimer: I am an investor in Greenfresh Market and the Renton Red is sold exclusively at Greenfresh Market, so I do benefit indirectly from the success of this wine. Yet, I did not feel the need to write up the 2003 and 2004 Renton Reds. It was not until the 2005 version that I fell for this wine.

For those of you who shop at Greenfresh Market, look for the 2005 Renton Red in the coming weeks and I strongly encourage you to buy it by the case! I certainly will.

Birthday Gift

I was totally surprised and impressed with the gift my daughter Lael gave me for my 60th Birthday. I have heard of personalized wine labels but have never seen them, these were very nicely done. We enjoyed a bottle on my Birthday and last week had company from out of town so were able to ‘Toast me again’. We are now heading to our vacation home and will take a couple of bottles to celebrate with family and friends that were not able to be here for my Birthday. 50th Birthday Party

...the wine was great! Everyone loved it. The best part was when my husband arrived with dyed hair, temporary tattoos, and fake beard and mustache...I didn't recognize him! (I guess maybe 50 DID affect him?). Anyway, I got the last laugh as he wandered to the wine table and said, "Well, honey, what kind of wine did you get?" He picked up a bottle, stared at it a few seconds then exclaimed, "Holy sh__! That's me!"...I got the last laugh :) He LOVED the wine more than any other aspect of his bash...We kept one bottle and have it out on our bar at home. Thanks again.

Special Personal Event

We were out of the country when the 40 Under 40 awards gala was held so I wanted to do something special to honor my husband. I planned a surprise dinner for him and when a friend mentioned Northwest Cellars custom wine labels I knew it was the perfect touch. The bottles were simple, but elegant (and humorous) labels, were displayed with roses and candles...they just looked perfect. We enjoyed a few bottles of wine that evening and it was excellent. Gourmet Dining Club

This morning the four couples left and headed back to the east coast. We are now taking a deep breath! First, we served the wine as a blind tasting. They were all very pleased with the wine and found it a delightful accompaniment to the lamb dish that I served. Most guessed it to be a California wine which may attest to their unfamiliarity with Washington State Wines or the feeling that better quality wines in the US come from California. We are working hard to introduce our east coast friends to the wonderful wines we have here! Secondly, they were much impressed with the label. Thirdly, we gave them each a bottle to take home and no one forgot their wine! (I have found ties and a few other things, but no wine left behind!) Appreciation Gift

In the horse business, one is always looking for something unusual to send someone they do business with. After purchasing Medaglia d'Oro, a great race stallion out of a mare we owned, Richard and Audrey Haisfield called us looking for another. A 60th Birthday Party with Surprise Wedding Vows

For my husband's 60th Birthday Party I wanted everything to be perfect down to the last detail. Thanks to the creative help of Northwest Cellars, we were able to give each of our guests a bottle of wine that was personalized just for our party. How often can you find a great quality bottle of wine with a label that has a picture of your husband in the bath tub? It was a huge hit!!! We also served Northwest Cellars wine at the party and the response was wonderful to both the red and white wine.

My husband, John, surprised me at his birthday party and asked me to renew our wedding vows. Not only did I get a new beautiful wedding ring, but each of our guests received a fabulous dark Belgian chocolate bar, from Northwest Cellars, with our image and the words "You still take my breath away, Love John."
